The band returns to competition and again wins the Honors section (by 0.2 points!) at NABBA XXI in Little Rock, Arkansas. The competition pieces were The Undaunted (Eric Ball), Images for Brass (Stephen Bulla) and Flying the Breeze (Philip Sparke). To commemorate the band’s 10th anniversary, a special concert is held with guest trumpet soloist Vince DiMartino, and guest conductor Dr. Ron Holz. The concert included the debut of the Cincinnati Honors Band directed by Greg Mills. The CBB also performed benefit concerts for the Cincinnati Symphony and Habitat for Humanity, and played with the CCM Brass Choir in a series of Cincinnati Pops concerts. The band also performed at Armstrong Chapel, Evendale, the 8th Brass Band Festival in Ashland, KY, and in Van Wert & St. Marys, Ohio. Dwight Wages steps down as president to pursue colder interests in Canada.

At NABBA XXII in Charleston, West Virginia, the band placed a close third in the Honors section, playing Brass Metamorphosis (James Curnow) and Journey into Freedom (Eric Ball). The band started out the season playing at Tall Stacks in October and then played holiday concerts at Adena HS and Sycamore HS with Stacy Baker, tuba. Just before NABBA, the band played a joint concert with the Honors band at Montgomery Baptist Church, played another Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel and finished their concert season at Raymond Walters College. In the summer, the band performed at the first All-American Community Band Festival in Blue Ash, and returned to Edgewood KY to play at President’s Park. Ron Lutterbie assumed the presidency of the band, with David Ciancio as vice-president, Bill Harvey as secretary and Jo Ann Harvey as treasurer.

At NABBA XXIII in St. Charles Illinois, the band again placed a close third in the Honors section, playing Coventry Variations (Bramwell Tovey) and Firestorm (Stephen Bulla), although the scores from two of the three judges had us winning. The band opened up the season with a joint holiday concert with the Loveland High School Choir, followed by concerts with the Wyoming High School Band and the Cincinnati Honors Brass Band. This last concert also featured David Vining, professor of trombone at CCM, blazing through Carnival of Venice. Ron Holz was a guest conductor for our presentation at the Ohio Music Educators Association conference. The band concluded their indoor concerts with a performance at CCM’s Brass Extravanganza and the annual Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel. The summer season included a joint concert with the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony, and solo acts at Union Township, New Richmond, Blue Ash, and Madison, Indiana. These concerts featured Bob Gray playing Concert Brilliante and Ron Lutterbie on Over the Rainbow.
